Researches have shown that pollen has all the indispensable to a human organism aminoacids in its chemical structure. It is compared to wheat flour in its calorie and nutrient content. Pollen is a valuable medicinal and prophylactic remedy for curing many diseases, and it is also biological stimulators, having a healthful effect on the whole organism.
It has 28 chemical elements: calcium, phosphor, magnesium, zinc, chromium, iodine and others. There is especially a lot of potassium, copper, cobalt and iron, the contents of provitamin A 20 times surpass that in carrots. It also contains vitamins E, C, D, P, PP, K and vitamins of the B group, phytohormones, stimulating tissue development, antibacterial substances, and compounds, having antisclerotic, anti-inflammatory, capillary-strengthening, antioxidant, diuretic, antitumour, bile-expelling, and other useful effects, necessary for supporting health. A number of ferments, that are important for metabolism and other chemical processes in a human organism, were found in pollen, at last there are phytocide, with the help of which plants protect against plenty of bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
Pollen of plants varies in its composition that makes its medicinal and prophylactic properties different. So thyme pollen has a tonic and antiseptic quality; sage pollen has a diuretic effect and regulates digestive system functions; sunflower pollen stimulates urination and has a slight laxative effect.
There are more than 50 biologically active substances and 240 substances, indispensable for biochemical processes that take place in the human organism. All these facts prove its therapeutic effect, which is greater than that of herbal infusions and decoctions. Pollen is widely used for toning up and recovering in the case of physical or mental overfatigue. It is recommended to take 1/3 to a spoonful of pollen two –three times a day. Those who are predisposed to illnesses should take 1/2– 2/3 two-three times a day during three-four weeks. The doze for children is 1/4 -1/3 of teaspoonfuls.

Contra-indications. Before using beekeeping products in general and pollen in particular it is necessary to make sure that there is no allergic reaction to it. The first weeks of taking beekeeping products should be under medical observation. It is not recommended to take honey with pollen if one suffers from diabetes. Although pollen is a very valuable product it should be taken within reasonable limits. Excessive dose of pollen containing vitamin A can not only harm liver but cause changes in coagulability of blood and susceptibility to hemorrhage and bleeding (especially internal). Pollen should not be taken after 7 p.m. as it is a stimulant and can lead to sleep disorders.
