Doctor Honey bee

Wounds .

Using honey for beneficial purposes has a long history. In Ancient Egypt, Syria, Babylon, India, honey was widely used for curing wounds and cuts, ulcer, gastrointestinal disorders, kidneys, skin diseases. In the works of Avicenna, Galan there are dozens of formulas of medicines containing honey and wax. In our country honey also have been used as a beneficial remedy since ancient times.

Honey consists of 18-20% of water, 34,8% of glucose, 39,6% of fructose, 1,3% of saccharose, 0, 19% of mineral substances, a number of vitamins, especially of the groups B and C. It is proved that honey has a bactericidal, stimulating and epithelizing properties, is a highly nutritious product, stimulates the processes of tissue metabolism, and ferment systems functions. Honey was effectively used in combination with cod-liver oil for treating of not repairing wounds. Konkov's ointment is very widespread because of it's effectiveness, as honey is its main component. Honey is very effective when applied in the form of an ointment, for treating eczema and neurodermatitis. Patients suffering from these severe skin inflammations constitute about 30-40% of all the patients in hospitals.

Honey ointment

500 gr of honey is heated and 10 gr of pure bitch tar is added, the mass is carefully stirred. The ointment is kept in a cool place at a temperature of + 4C. A thin layer of ointment is applied to the surface of lesion. The course of treatment usually takes 15-20 days on average and is repeated in two weeks. Two or three courses are enough for recovery.

Plain but indispensable.

To the extent that honey is pleasant to the same extent other beekeeping products are unpleasant. Propolis has wonderful beneficial properties and is very widely used in medicinal practice. 5% propolis spirit solution can be used for treating diseases of upper respiratory tract: rhinitis, pneumonia, and for healing wounds. Tampons, bandages wet with the propolis solution (1:2, 1:3), with ointment or gargling (1:3) are used for treating respiratory tract diseases. For treating wounds an aerosol irrigating by a 1:2 or 1: 3 propolis solution during four minutes and bandages with propolis ointment are used.

Magic liquid.

A 5% propolis solution is prepared as follows:

10 gr of propolis is minced, all the visible particles of wax and of other admixtures are removed. The prepared mass is put into a bottle and 96% ethyl alcohol is poured over it. (a part of propolis per 10 parts of ethanol). The solution is infused during 3 days at a room temperature in a dark place. The solution is shaken and stirred during 30 hours, daily. On the third day the bottle is placed into a cold place (0-5C) for about two hours. If the solution has been prepared correctly, the surface layer is from yellow up to dark brown color with a pleasant odor. The medium layer consists of undissolved particles of propolis and the lower layer -of wax particles of gray color and other admixtures. In a filtered surface layer an amount of dry substance is determined with the help of refractometer. For a 5% propolis solution this amount should be 1,375-1,377. If the number is more than 1,377, then the alcohol must be added, if less than 1,377 then a small amount of minced propolis. In 100 ml of propolis solution there should be 5 gr of dry substances.

5% propolis solution stimulates tissue regenerating process in the case of wound infections, due to which peripheral epithelization process is activated. The preparation improves wounds healing.

Spirit propolis solution is also used for aerosol treatment of respiratory tract. Inhalation are made with the help electro-aerosol device AI-1 ( the propolis is dissolved 1:2 or 1:3 in distilled water, in boiled milk, in peach or apricot oil). The session lasts 1, 3 , 5 or 10 minutes daily. The course of treatment includes 25 sessions. After each session a patient should rest for 25 minutes. If necessary the treatment is repeated in one or three months.

Beneficial ointment.

The solution is filtered through a filter paper. The residue should be washed in a small amount of spirit and then is used for making ointment (10, 20 - 30%) on an oily basis. The ointment is prepared on waterless lanolin, on plant oil or on butter. The basis is melted on in a pan put in hot water, and the necessary amount of not dissolved in spirit propolis is added there. Due to its bacteriostatic and bactericide effect, propolis destroys bacteria and infection processes in mucous membrane. The vasoconstrictor effect of propolis is accompanied by its anaesthetic effect.

For curing erosions or wounds the surface of lesion is treated by peroxide and, is dried by a sterile tampon and a tampon with the ointment is applied on the surface of not repairing wound for 12 hours. The ointment stimulates granulation and peripheral epithelization.

Attention: allergy to propolis.

For the last few years propolis has been widely used because of its healing properties, as it is effective for treating diseases of respiratory tract. But it can cause allergic reactions in some people. Thus, in the result of propolis therapy aimed at curing benign tumour, in the place of its application severe itch and burning pain, skin swelling and rash may appear. A day later the rash may become even more severe and edema insues. The general condition of the patient is becoming worse with every hour: headache appears, general weakness, nausea, temperature up to 38C.

Patients suffering from bronchial asthma can have attacks of shortness of breath during propolis inhalation, or propolis spirit solution rubbing against radiculitis may cause shock. There are some other allergic reactions to propolis.

As a rule people hypersensitive to bees and bees stings have allergic reactions to propolis, and also people suffering from chronic diseases: bronchial asthma, eczema, diathesis, nettle-rash.

But it is not proved yet whether propolis itself or protein residues left by bees in propolis cause allergic reactions in patients. But whatever causes allergy people with hypersensitivity to propolis should be careful using it with medical purposes, especially with concentrations higher than 30-40%.

If allergic reaction to propolis appears, then the specialist should be consulted immediately.
